The Princess Project

When I lived in San Diego two and a half years ago, I had the pleasure of volunteering with a wonderful non-profit organization called The Princess Project.  This organization collects donations of gently used formal, semi-formal and bridesmaids type dresses.  They sponsor an event to give the dresses and accessories to high school girls to wear at their prom.  The dresses are intended for low income families whom otherwise wouldn't be able to afford a dress.   With that being said, they do not require proof of financials from the families.

I stumbled upon this organization on accident and volunteered at an event they were holding.  The event was their annual dress giveaway back in 2010.  I was lucky enough to get to work as a styling consultant, helping the girls play dress up with the dresses and accessories.  It was so fulfilling and inspiring seeing these young impressionable eyes light up as they found the "perfect" dress.  They loved getting an opinion from a young woman, as well as their own mother.  It brought me back to when I was in high school and had found my "perfect" prom dress.  When you are that age, nothing else seems to matter.

The reason I bring this up, is because I will be in San Diego this weekend and it just so happens that they are having one of their dress drives.  I will be donating the following two dresses and have asked local friends if anyone has anything they can donate to the cause.  I am so excited to bring the dresses to the donation center and really wish I could participate in this year's annual giveaway.

If you live in the Southern California area and would like to volunteer or donate dresses/accessories, I know The Princess Project would very much appreciate it. If you don't live in the area but would like to help, please take a look at this link for financial donation opportunities.  Also, like check them out on facebook.
