Getting back to ME!

As mentioned in my Friday Faves post, I wanted to use this weekend to get out of my "funk" and back on track.  I always joke that when I give myself too much down time without any activities, I tend to "think" too much, and that's never good for anyone.

In order to get back "on track" I started by making a weekend plan.  That meant no time for being bored or lazy.  I am very good at composing and using to do lists but I had so much that I wanted/needed to accomplish that it appeared too overwhelming.  So I started by writing down everything.  I knew this wasn't all going to get done this weekend but instead of feeling overwhelmed and giving up, I tried a new technique.  I

f you remember back in January, I posted about how I wanted to continue blogging and I referenced The Happiness Project book.  One of her techniques for when you are feeling overwhelmed, is to give yourself time blocks to focus on given tasks.  For example, cleaning was on my list but instead of feeling overwhelmed that it would take me hours to clean my whole apartment, I designated 1-2 hour time blocks throughout the weekend to slowly tackle this daunting task.  I did this with other things as well, such as blogging, down time, errands, meal planning and cooking.  And it actually worked!  I would set my alarm so that I knew it was time to switch tasks.  This kept me going and didn't allow me to feel bored of one given task.

Another thing that is extremely important to me and that tends to help me feel better is connecting with people.  So I made sure to schedule some time with a girlfriend, whom I haven't seen in awhile.  She recently had a baby so her time is limited as well.  Friday evening I went to her place after her son was sleeping and we spent a few hours chatting over a bottle of wine.  I stayed over night and got to spend time with her little man in the morning.  We ended our time together with brunch at one of my favorite Santa Monica locations, The Penthouse at the Huntley Hotel.  We had a very pleasant walk home through the Promenade while we chatted and popped into a few stores.  It was the perfect way to spend a sunny Saturday morning and I left feeling rejuvenated and ready to continue on being productive!

Finally, I have more posts planned for this week about how my weekend tasks are going to keep me on my routine and feel more accomplished.

1) Styling outfits for the entire week.
2) Meal planning / grocery shopping / cooking.
3) Around the house organization.

How was every one's weekend?  I'd love to hear about your ways of getting out of a rut!

  1. Just happened to pop in to your blog for the first time today. Loving it and loving this post! I too feel so "in a rut" lately- I just had a baby on New Years and feel my house is falling apart around me :) LOVE your idea of taking some time on the weekend to get organized. I think I will take some time today to do that as well- even though it's Monday haha!! :)

    1. It really makes things so much easier and I find I feel better and dress cuter. I am hoping to be more consistent about it.
